Our goal is to consolidate the metrological community
MEETING OF THE PRESIDIUM OF THE POLISH METROLOGICAL UNION
“We wish to consolidate the scattered potential of Polish metrology,” said Professor Jacek Semaniak, President of the Central Office of Measures, opening the meeting of the Presidium of the Polish Metrological Union that was held on December 2, 2021. Professor Semeniak, who is the President of the PMU, and Vice President of the PMU Dariusz Mazurkiewicz met with invited guests to discuss the most important goals of the Polish Metrological Union.
“We want to integrate the metrological communities so that they could establish a long-term and fruitful cooperation that will continue after the project’s completion. It is important for us to establish interinstitutional cooperation and to organise seminars and conferences in order to promote the exchange of scientific ideas,” Professor Semeniak added.
Vice President of the Polish Metrological Union Dariusz Mazur¬kie¬wicz said that, in his opinion, it was crucial to put emphasis on increasing the absorption of national and international grants and promoting the latest solutions and innovations in the field of metrology. Concluding, he observed that the implementation of national and EU priorities in terms of metrology transformation and digitalization, as well as sustainable development would imply the need for investment and long-term interdisciplinary research and development works.
Currently, in Kielce, work is underway to build a laboratory campus for the Central Office of Measures. This investment will result in the creation of a base for conducting research and research and development for Polish industry. It will be a place where scientists will be able to develop science in the field of metrology in order to increase Poland’s competitiveness on the world map and to provide scientific, research and technological support for Polish enterprises.
In August 2021, Minister of Science and Technology Przemysław Czarnek signed an agreement with the Rector of the Lublin University of Technology, Professor Zbigniew Pater, on the establishment of the Polish Metrological Union. This was confirmed by a contract concluded and signed on September 24, 2021 commissioning the Lublin University of Technology to implement the task of establishing the PMU. This created a forum for cooperation for the development of Polish metrology and the integration of metrological communities .
On October 18, 2021 the National Forum for the Integration of Polish Metrology was held on the premises of the Lublin University of Technology. The event was attended by representatives of Polish universities, research institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Łukasiewicz Research Network, as well as authorities of the City of Lublin and the Lublin Province. The programme of the Forum included ceremonial signing of the act on joining the Polish Metrological Union. The act was signed by the biggest technical universities in Poland, key research institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and other entities.
Another event related to the support of metrology is the “Polish Metrology” programme established by the Minister of Education and Science. On November 23, 2021, with the organisational support of the Polish Metrological Union in Lublin, Vice President of the Central Office of Measures Andrzej Kurkiewicz conducted a webinar entitled ” Polish Metrology. A Grant Programme of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science”, during which he presented the activity of the Polish Metrological Union and then answered questions from the auditorium. Jerzy Józwik, Head of the PMU Office, added that the Congress of Metrology, which will be held in September 2022 in Lublin, would be an extremely important event from the point of view of networking and integration of metrological communities in Poland. The congress will create a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience, as well as for the promotion of the latest achievements and research results in the field of metrology.
The meeting was held at the Central Office for Measures in Warsaw, the next one is planned to be held on the premises of the Lublin University of Technology. The date of the next meeting of the PMU Presidium will be announced at pum.pollub.pl.
